Basic Computing Series

 

Part 1: Computer Concepts Seminar

 This interactive seminar is the perfect place to begin learning about modern home computers.  Get the information you need to help you buy a PC, get answers to common questions, and have the opportunity to ask any questions you have.  Learn about Hard Drives, Flash Drives, CPU’s, Megabytes, Gigabytes, RAM, USB, and more.  This seminar is the perfect way to bring your knowledge up-to-date and prepare you for the rest of the Basic Computing Series.

Part 2:  Basic Computing

Master the mouse, command the keyboard, and take charge of your computer.  Learn about icons, menus, windows and word processing.  Understand your computer’s file and folder system.  Develop fundamentals and discover tips and tricks to improve your computing skills.  This class is easy enough for someone who has never touched a computer before, but contains enough information to be worthwhile even if you already work on a PC.

Part 3: Working with Computer Files

Ever say, or hear someone say: “I saved it on my computer and now I have no idea where it is?”  This is the class that will give you the skills to eliminate that problem.  Learn to create a file, save the file, and then find it.  Learn to organize your files by creating folders, moving files in and out of folders, and renaming files and folders.  Clean house by deleting files and working with the recycle bin.  Also, gain valuable experience working with a flash drive.

Part 4:  Customize Your Computer

Configure your PC to look and act the way you want it to.  Change wallpapers, screensavers, and resolutions.  Configure taskbar and start menu options.  Install and uninstall software.  Adjust your mouse and keyboard settings.  Everything you need to get started with fine tuning your computer.

Microsoft Offices Series

 

Computer Documents

Microsoft Word basics.  Highlight text, fine-tune fonts, set-up margins, work with page views, align text, create columns, spell check, copy and past, and printer options.  Learn the basic skills to create a quality text document on your computer

Intermediate Documents

Create tables, bulleted and numbered lists, and page borders.  Learn to utilize the thesaurus, create envelopes and labels, and insert and work with pictures.  This class begins where “computer documents” ends.

Understanding Spreadsheets

Microsoft Excel basics.  Balance a checkbook, format and sort data, work with calculations, and utilize the fill handle.  This class is everything you need to know to begin working with spreadsheets at work or at home.

Online Computing Series

 

Internet Security Seminar

Dispel the myths and learn the facts.  Why you should be concerned but not afraid to shop and bank online.  What dangers are out there? What should you have in place to protect yourself?  Learn the answers and discover that what the 6 o’clock news tells you is mostly just hype and scare tactics.  This 2-hour seminar kicks-off the online computing series.

Internet Basics

There is more to utilizing the internet than just looking at websites.  We’ll discuss dial-up vs. broadband, ISP’s, and what those upload and download speed numbers really mean.  Learn to effectively navigate the internet, manage your favorite websites, work with history, and master the use of search engines.  Change your homepage, configure your browser, and take control of your internet surfing.

Email Basics

Go beyond sending and receiving mail.  We’ll show you how to reply, reply-all, cc, bcc, forward, and use attachments.  Manage your address book, work with folders, and really take command of your email program.
