Youth Floor Hockey

   Classes will focus on developing floor hockey skills while teaching life-long values of good sportsmanship.  From floor hockey drills to evening scrimmages, learn skills and healthy attitudes transferable to other sports.  Bring a baseball glove, if you would like a shot at being goalie.  Gym shoes are mandatory; shin guards are optional, but recommended.  Equipment fee $8 payable to instructor at class.

Build Your First Stick & Tissue Airplane

(Ages 11 +)

     This class is geared for the modeler with little or no experience who is interested in building a “stick and tissue” airplane.  The Cadet is in the second skill level in the “Build-N-Fly” construction kit series designed by Guillow’s (in business since 1926). Everything necessary to assemble your model is included except a hobby/Xacto knife which must be supplied by the modeler. Kit fee:  $16 payable to instructor at class.

Introduction to a Hobby:  Plastic Models & Dioramas

(Ages 10 +)

   In this 2-session class, beginning hobbyists will build a plastic snap together car model and create a scenic diorama (trees, rocks, mountains and roadways) on which to display the model car. Beginning Wood Modeling

2D Video Game Design

   Design a basic computer video game (no experience needed).  Learn computer graphics techniques and animation fundamentals.  Create an exciting landscape for your game.  Next add realism to the scene with Action Collison Detection and Sound.  Take home the game you created and play it with friends!  Parents are invited on the last hour of the last day for a demonstration.  Lab fee $25 payable to instructor at first class.  Students work as teams on computers (paring ages 8-10 & 11-13 when possible).

   Create a website that highlights your creativity!  Make your website the one everybody is talking about.  Learn the basics of web design.  Students start by learning design fundamentals such as storyboarding, color choices, and moods using HTML programming.  Next learn how to add text, images and forms to your website.  We will teach you how to be SAFE on the Internet.  Parents are invited on the last hour of the last day for a demonstration.  Lab fee $25 payable to instructor at first class.  Students work as teams on computers (pairing ages 8-10 & 11-13 when possible).

Babysitting

     Babysitting is a great way to make money and learn responsibility.  This class is offered for both girls and boys ages 11-16.  You will learn tips that will allow you to be a responsible babysitter, simple first aid, child development, safety issues and infant/child CPR.  At the end of the class you will receive a class participation certificate and an American Heart Association  Heartsaver CPR card.  Participation in both classes is required.

   Come learn all about things that fly.  We’ll cover a variety of topics from the biology of bugs and birds flying to the physics of airplane and space shuttle flights.  Why do astronauts float?  Why can’t turkeys fly?  How do helicopters work?  Can mammals fly? These are some questions that we’ll have fun discovering the answers to.  Kids will learn how and why things fly by doing fun, easy experiments.  At the end of class, be prepared to test your own launching abilities!!  Lab fee $6 payable to instructor at class.

En Garde:  Fencing for Beginners

     Have you ever wished that you could take up the sword like D’Artagnon?  Well you can!  Fencing is a safe, modern sport, which traces its’ history back to the duel.  This beginner program for boys and girls will have you parrying your opponent’s attacks and scoring touches on the target.  Fencing improves hand-eye coordination, strength, agility, confidence, and teaches social skills and manners.

Sciensational Workshops for Kids, Inc.

   Sciensational Workshops for Kids offer hands-on science enrichment programs.  They are now in their 30th year of operation and run programs in 10 different states.  The Strongsville Community Education Department is pleased to add these sciensational workshops to our summer offerings. A supervised lunch will be provided for students attending both a.m. and p.m. sessions-bring a brown bag lunch.

 

Advanced Robotics – “The Ultimate Experience”

(Ages 7-12)

  Build and take home your own Robot.  You will also get to build a wide assortment of other Robots.  Build a Robot Dinosaur, Galacatisaurus, Mars Cruiser, Aquabot, Space Copter, Desert Rover,  “The Five Foot Tall Commander Robot with 5 motors”, Robo Dog and 6ft. long Crocosaurus Alligater (watch it move) as you control it.  Build as many as you can in the time that we have.  You can also build your own robots with our own motors, wires, controllers, and wheels.  Let’s use your imagination.  Use our hand held computer to program the robot in the various program modes.  It’s a challenge, but easy to do if you are ready to think.  Get ready for Sumo Battles – Battle Box – and Sciensational Workshops’ Build-a-Thon.

The All-Terrain Tracker Workshop

(Ages 7-12)

   How about some LAND ROVER excitement!  Build and take home your own TRACKER ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLE.  The vehicle travels the rough terrain overcoming objects in its path.  Sciensational Workshops will bring its own course for you to conquer.  Sand stones, twigs and balls will be all part of the challenge for your tracked vehicle.  Look out for those surprise obstacles.  How about a timed race?  Watch your tracker and see how long it takes you to go the length of the course.  Don’t miss out on learning new ideas on building your own obstacle course.  You will also learn about gears as you build your tracked All-Terrain Vehicle.  Work in a group with your new friends as you design a Robot you can control.  Build a sumo wrestler.  Be a part of our battle box events.  Loads of fun and education in store the Sciensational way.  And don’t leave the workshop without your new TRACKER ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLE.
