Dear Whitney Families,
Please allow me this opportunity to introduce myself. I am Jim Carpenter and I am privileged to be the new Principal of Whitney Elementary School where I will be beginning my 20th year in education, and my 13th year as an elementary principal. I bring with me a diverse background, as I have worked in districts of various sizes that have provided me with experiences in serving various economic distributions, various cultural groups, and various academic abilities. My educational experience includes service as a grade 5 teacher, a grade 3 teacher, and as a varsity coach in both football and track.

I hope to accomplish many things at Whitney while maintaining the programs that have made “OUR” school so successful. First of all, I want to continue the educational success of our students that has become not only a tradition, but also an expectation. With the continued partnership between you, the parents, and our excellent staff I know this goal will be obtained through our combined hard work.
In addition, I want to promote a school atmosphere that ensures the safety and well-being of all students by dealing fairly and compassionately with all situations as they arise. I do expect the students to “Do the Right Thing”, but also realize that mistakes are part of learning and growing. With that in mind, I am counting on our combined efforts to encourage our children to make wise and safe choices.
Finally, please know that I welcome constructive feedback and will often solicit comments about our school. Please do not hesitate to stop and see me or to call me should the need arise. I will do my best to address all concerns in a timely fashion. I am looking forward to a great year and to meeting all members of the Whitney Family.
Yours in Education,
James A. Carpenter
